ASELSAN, The company has taken another historic step in its vision of protecting the country's airspace with domestic and national systems. The company announced this through a notification to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP)., The Presidency of the Republic of Turkey's Defence Industries Directorate (SSB) has signed new contracts totaling €1,122,139,260 in addition to the ongoing mass production projects of Air Defence Systems. This massive agreement reinforces Turkey's determination to ensure the security of its airspace entirely with national resources, by bringing the production of critical air defense systems such as the SİPER and HİSAR family, which Türkiye has developed with great success in recent years, to record levels.
Historic Agreement Announced to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP): 1.1 Billion Euros in Continued Support for National Air Defense Production!
The new contracts signed between ASELSAN and SSB, the umbrella organization of the defense industry, are of a nature that will add further strength to existing mass production projects. Approximately 1 Billion 122 Million Euros (over 40 Billion TL at today's exchange rate) With such a massive budget, this agreement has been recorded as one of the largest domestic contracts ever signed in a single transaction. The deliveries to be made under the contract... Between 2027 and 2030 The completion of the project is planned. This long-term planning guarantees both the uninterrupted fulfillment of the Turkish Armed Forces' needs and the operation of the production lines at full capacity for many years to come.
What Does This Agreement Mean? Here is Türkiye's Layered Air Defense Umbrella: SİPER, HİSAR-O+ and HİSAR-A+
These massive contracts signify an increase in the mass production of the national systems that Türkiye has successfully developed and which form the backbone of its "layered air defense" concept. This concept aims to create an interconnected protective shield against threats at different altitudes and ranges. Here are the national heroes of this shield:
- Low Altitude – HİSAR-A+: It is the first layer of defense that provides protection for critical military bases, ports, and units against low-altitude threats such as helicopters, cruise missiles, and UAVs.
- Medium Altitude – HİSAR-O+: It is the backbone of the medium-altitude layer, providing regional protection against longer-range threats to fighter aircraft and strategic targets. With its radar and command and control capabilities, it covers a wide area.
- High Altitude – TRENCH: This is the biggest step forward in Türkiye's strategic air defense. SİPER, which forms the outermost layer against long-range ballistic missiles and strategic bomber aircraft, has placed Türkiye among the leading countries in the world in this field.
The new €1.1 billion contract means that the production lines for these three critical systems will be further accelerated, and a much larger number of domestically produced air defense systems will be added to the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory.
Why is it strategic? Ending external dependence, providing complete protection for national security.
Turkey has recently faced significant diplomatic difficulties and covert embargoes in the procurement of air defense systems. The national air defense system projects, initiated in light of these experiences, are today the most concrete results of Türkiye's determination to be self-sufficient. These systems, developed through the efforts of ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TÜBİTAK-SAGE, and hundreds of subcontractors, enable Türkiye to protect its own airspace as it wishes and to maintain strategic independence without seeking permission from any other country. This new mass production contract is one of the strongest steps taken to ensure and deepen this independence.
ASELSAN Is Not Alone: A Huge Budget That Will Provide Lifeline to Hundreds of Domestic SMEs
This massive €1.1 billion budget will not only go into ASELSAN's coffers. ASELSAN works with hundreds of domestic SMEs and subcontractors on projects of this scale. Thousands of different products, from mechanical parts for radars to missile fins, software modules to precision electronic boards, are manufactured by technology companies across Türkiye. Therefore, this agreement is also a national economic initiative that will revitalize the entire defense industry ecosystem, increase employment, and further expand the technology base.
Investing in the Future: National Air Defense Ecosystem Strengthened with Deliveries Continuing Until 2030
The fact that deliveries are spread until 2030 shows that the project is a preparation not only for today's threats but also for those of the future. During this process, the systems produced will be continuously updated and further developed with new technologies. This historic contract has taken its place in our technological history as one of the biggest and strongest steps Türkiye has taken in building its own air defense shield.
