Alarm Bells for Togg and the Industrial Revolution: Historic Peak in Localization with 84 Percent, Loss of Leadership in Sales

Sanayi ve Teknoloji Bakanlığı verilerine göre Togg’un yeni modeli T10F, %84,1’lik yerlilik oranıyla Cumhuriyet tarihinin en yerli otomobili olarak kayıtlara geçti. Ancak madalyonun diğer yüzünde, satış rakamlarındaki düşüş var. Ocak ayında model bazında liderliği Çinli rakibine kaptıran ve listenin 3. sırasına gerileyen T10X, pazarın artık çantada keklik olmadığını acı bir tecrübeyle gösterdi.

Data from January 2026 proves that the cards are being reshuffled in Türkiye's electric vehicle market and that Togg's honeymoon period is over. Togg has reached the pinnacle in terms of industrial depth while also entering the toughest corner of its history in commercial competition.

The Lead is Gone: Why Did T10X Drop to 3rd Place?

The Togg T10X, which had long held the title of Türkiye's best-selling electric car, relinquished its throne in January 2026. Models from the Chinese automotive giant BYD, with their aggressive pricing and model strategy, occupied the top two spots on the list, while the Togg T10X came in third and the newer T10F in fourth place.

This table shows that Togg is no longer the sole market leader on a model-by-model basis. While the combined sales of the two models (2,029 units) keep the brand strong in the overall standings, the slowdown in T10X sales momentum and the aggressive rise of imported competitors (especially BYD) serve as an "early warning" for Togg management.

Tesla is in freefall, Togg is resisting.

Despite Togg's market contraction, the situation for American giant Tesla is far more dire. The Tesla Model Y, once considered Togg's biggest rival, sold only 490 units in January, placing it just 8th on the list.

While Tesla's dramatic decline shows Togg's resilience, it also makes it clear that the competition is no longer coming from the west (Tesla), but from the east (BYD, KG Mobility).

In contrast to this red alert on sales lists, a true green revolution is taking place on the industrial side. According to the Ministry of Industry and Technology's domestic contribution report, Togg has set an almost unmatched record, surpassing half-century-old automotive giants (Fiat, Renault, Toyota, Hyundai) that manufacture in Türkiye.

Being local isn't enough, being competitive is essential.

The 84% localization rate is Togg's biggest asset. This rate should make it more resilient to exchange rate fluctuations than its competitors and create a cost advantage. Togg needs to translate this domestic strength in production into price advantages or aggressive campaigns for the end-user. Otherwise, this tremendous success in the industry may not be enough to stop the decline in sales figures. While increased competition benefits the consumer, Togg must translate its production success into marketing to avoid becoming an away game in its own home.
