The Turkish defence industry continues to rapidly increase its production capacity in the fields of smart munitions and electro-optical systems. ASELSAN made a highly strategic notification to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) on March 16, 2026. The company announced that it had signed two separate contracts totaling $166.45 million with the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and a domestic platform manufacturer. Within the scope of these agreements, the company will both meet the guidance system needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and export next-generation electro-optical solutions to the international market.
In every field of modern industry, from automotive to aviation, sub-system manufacturers are the unsung heroes of the ecosystem. Indeed, ASELSAN's official notification to KAP on March 16, 2026, reveals how flawlessly this sub-system supply chain operates in the Turkish defence industry. The two major contracts signed clearly prove that the company's production lines will operate at full capacity in the coming years.
The Brain of Smart Munitions: Guidance Systems
According to the KAP statement, the first contract, signed with the SSB for $111.85 million, covers the procurement of national guidance systems. The company will carry out the deliveries under this contract consecutively between 2027 and 2028. In the modern battlefield, munitions hitting their targets without fail is of vital importance. Guidance kits (HGK, KGK, Teber, etc.) transform standard unguided free-fall aircraft bombs into smart, precision-guided missiles.
ASELSAN engineers provide the production of these systems using entirely domestic hardware and software capabilities. Thus, our military guarantees pinpoint strike capability without experiencing foreign dependency in potential embargo situations. Moreover, this high-budget agreement demonstrates that our air force's munition stocks are constantly kept updated and full using domestic resources.
Export of Electro-Optical Systems Abroad
The second contract mentioned in the KAP notification focuses on the direct export potential in the defence industry and inter-institutional synergy. ASELSAN secured a new agreement worth $54.6 million with a domestic platform manufacturer. The company will deliver these advanced technology electro-optical systems directly to end-users abroad.
For unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and armoured platforms, electro-optical cameras function as a sharp eye. Advanced systems like ASELFLIR or CATS perform flawless target detection and laser designation in day and night conditions. Therefore, when domestic platform manufacturers sell vehicles abroad, they procure the critical cameras for these vehicles not from foreigners but from the domestic ecosystem.
Strategic Leverage Effect in Exports
The global export success achieved by domestic platforms directly elevates sub-system manufacturers as well. With every Bayraktar TB2, AKINCI, or ANKA sold to foreign countries, the domestic electro-optical camera on that vehicle is also inevitably exported. This integrated business model creates sustainable, multiplier-effect growth in the defence industry.
Financial and Technological Growth
These two critical contracts, totaling over $166 million, prove that the Turkish defence industry is progressing decisively towards its production targets. With this massive workload announced on March 16, ASELSAN is further strengthening its financial structure. Additionally, the company channels the foreign currency revenue obtained from these deals into much more advanced R&D projects, such as artificial intelligence and next-generation sensor technologies.
In the coming period, as deliveries commence, both the striking power of the Turkish military will increase, and high-tech Turkish systems will enter the inventories of friendly nations.
