Derby, which brings comfort to the lives of consumers in more than 65 countries on five continents with its affordable prices, began its story in 1940, the first year of the Second World War, in Şişli, a remote but newly developing neighborhood of Istanbul, as Türkiye's rubber shoe and boot manufacturer.
The 1960s were a period of significant growth for Derby. With increasing production volume, Derby moved to a new manufacturing location: its modern factory in Bakırköy Osmaniye, in the area known as the Old Cement Factory. In 1960, with 1800 employees, it had become the 38th largest company in Türkiye.
