The second TS1400, a national helicopter engine being developed by TEI and intended to be used as the power unit for national helicopter projects, was tested at TEI facilities.
Within the scope of the Turboshaft Engine Development Project, which officially started on March 8, 2017, with the support of the Presidency of Defense Industry, with the aim of developing Türkiye's first national Turboshaft Engine TEI-TS1400, core engine tests were completed, and Türkiye's first turboshaft engine was successfully fired and operated in a stable condition on September 22, 2020.
The first prototype of the TEI-TS1400 engine, engine number TS3, was delivered to TUSAŞ on December 5, 2020, in a ceremony attended by the President of Turkey. Following the delivery of the TS3 engine, TEI continued its work without interruption and successfully completed the production and assembly of its twin, the TS4 engine. The first ignition and start-up of the TS4 engine was successfully carried out on January 6, 2021. During the tests, the TS4 engine was brought to "ground idle" power level, marking a significant milestone in the project. The tests of the TS4 engine were conducted on a new "national turboshaft engine test bench" designed and developed entirely by TEI engineers and technicians. A total of four engine test benches will be used within the scope of the project to expedite the certification process.
TEI-TS1400 Turboshaft Engine Development Project
In recent and ongoing projects initiated by Türkiye, such as the Indigenous Light General Purpose and Turkish General Purpose Helicopters, propulsion systems are sourced from abroad. The Turbojet Engine Development Project (TMGP) aims to localize the engine systems, which are crucial components of these projects, increasing their domestic production while reducing dependence on foreign sources. The Turbojet Engine Development Project was officially launched on March 8, 2017.
