The first prototype of the National Combat Aircraft, which will form the backbone of the Turkish Air Force when completed, was spotted on the assembly line.

The MMU Development Project Contract was signed with the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) on August 5, 2016, and work continues with all stakeholders involved in the project, primarily the main contractor TUSAŞ. The current contract covers the preliminary design phase, which is part of the development and production process. During this period, the aim is to design the aircraft, develop engineering, technology, test infrastructure and certification processes, and gain capabilities for the design and development of combat aircraft. A 'Heads of Agreement' for the development of the National Combat Aircraft was signed between TUSAŞ and BAE Systems (UK) on January 28, 2017, and the memorandum of agreement was signed on May 10, 2017. The cooperation agreement between TUSAŞ and BAE Systems was signed and entered into force on August 25, 2017.
