The world's first UCAV carrier, TCG Anadolu, has successfully passed its biggest test in the international arena. NATO, giving full marks to the Turkish ship's performance in the Baltic Sea exercise, assigned it to a critical mission instead of returning it to port. Deployed to the Latvian coast as part of the Alliance's Eastern Sentry mission, TCG Anadolu will now protect the airspace on NATO's eastern frontier.
The Ship-Based UCAV concept developed by the Turkish defense industry has proven its mettle not only on paper but also in NATO's most active operational theater. Following TCG Anadolu's superior success in the Steadfast Dart 2026 exercise, the Allied Joint Force Command (JFCBS) upgraded the ship's mission status to Active Operation. This decision certified that the flagship of the Turkish Navy has become a permanent and indispensable part of the NATO defense doctrine.
Not a Drill, A Real Mission: Clear Signal to the East
The breaking statement from NATO titled "A Clear Signal to the East" shows that TCG Anadolu's presence in the region has ceased to be symbolic. Entering under the command of NATO Air Command (AIRCOM), the ship will perform "Air Surveillance and Defense" duties off the coast of Latvia, close to the Russian border.
This assignment means:
