Türkiye's first national observation satellite capable of capturing images with sub-meter resolution, İMECE, will be launched into space in the last quarter of 2022.
After the mass facility opening ceremony at TUSAŞ, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank visited the TÜBİTAK UZAY employees who were working the night shift and shared the following: ‘İMECE, Türkiye’s first national observation satellite with sub-meter resolution, designed and produced from scratch, will be ready to be sent into space in the last quarter of 2022.“.
The solar panel deployment tests of the National Observation Satellite İMECE have been completed.
Minister Varank was accompanied during his visit by TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, TUSAŞ General Manager Temel Kotil, and TÜBİTAK Institute Director Mesut Gökten.
Varank inspected the flight model of the İMECE satellite, where preparations were being made for solar panel deployment tests, and received information about the ongoing work. The satellite's solar panel deployment tests were successfully completed today.
The satellite will be launched into space with subsystems developed within the İMECE Infrastructure Project to meet Türkiye's high-resolution imaging needs, aiming to minimize foreign dependence in critical space technologies.
Specifically, by developing imaging, communication, satellite management equipment (flight computer), electric propulsion, power and attitude determination subsystems using national resources, high value-added commercial equipment will be available for both domestic and international markets.
The İMECE satellite, developed by TÜBİTAK UZAY, is planned to complete its ground tests in the last quarter of the year and be launched in the first quarter of 2023.
