Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU)'s Technology Transfer Office (TTO) has developed the Jet Drone unmanned aerial vehicle project, which offers vertical take-off and horizontal flight (VTOL) capability with an innovative design.
This project's design won first place in the Hangar Campus Innovation Program organized by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ).
The Jet Drone is designed as a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) powered by electric fan motors, capable of both vertical take-off and horizontal flight. The IGU TTO team won first prize in a competition involving 93 teams from 38 universities by designing this project. The project combines the features of both drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), offering both vertical take-off and horizontal flight capabilities.
IGU Technology Transfer Office Director Yahya Kemal Kıran states that the Jet Drone Project is a bachelor's degree thesis designed by the IGU Technology Transfer Office team. The first presentation of the project was made in October 2022 under the chairmanship of IGU Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin. Designs began to take shape in May 2023 and participated in the TUSAŞ Campus Innovation Program in June 2023. After receiving mentorship from TUSAŞ, the project team prepared for the competition held in September 2023.
In a video published on the Istanbul Gelişim University YouTube account, Yahya Kemal Kıran shared information that changes have been made to the project and that the prototype production phase will begin soon. We eagerly await seeing the start of flight tests for this 100% domestically produced, innovatively designed unmanned aerial vehicle.
