Türkiye is making the biggest industrial leap in the history of the Republic in its air defence and strategic missile production infrastructure. At a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a massive chain of investments totalling $3 billion at ROKETSAN was officially announced. Within this scope, the Kırıkkale Propellant Production Facility (with the $1 billion portion completed), the Lalahan Warhead Facility (the largest of its kind in Europe), and the Advanced Technologies R&D Centre were inaugurated. Additionally, the company laid the foundation for new Missile Integration Facilities worth $2 billion, which will increase production capacity fivefold. Consequently, this massive infrastructure secures the ammunition stocks of the Turkish Armed Forces and completely eliminates foreign dependency.
Critical Infrastructure for Full Independence
Designing a cruise missile or ballistic missile is a great engineering success. However, establishing the industrial infrastructure to produce thousands of these missiles provides true strategic deterrence. With the inauguration of these three new facilities, ROKETSAN is fundamentally solving the biggest bottlenecks in missile production.
The strategic and technical anatomy of the investments is as follows:
- Kırıkkale Propellant Production Facility: The heart of a missile is its propulsion system. With this massive facility built on 25,000 acres of land, the company produces solid and liquid rocket fuels entirely with domestic resources. In a scenario where you cannot procure fuel from abroad, your missiles would remain idle in silos. This facility reduces embargo risks to zero.
- Europe's Largest Warhead Facility: The warheads that determine the destructive power of missiles are produced at the new facility in Lalahan, which has the largest capacity in its field in Europe. Engineers integrate armour-piercing, thermobaric, or high-explosive warheads here.
- Integration Facility Multiplying Capacity Fivefold: The new $2 billion Missile Integration Facilities, whose foundations were laid, will accelerate the company's production line to an incredible speed. This will radically shorten the time from order to delivery.
Why Does the Steel Dome Need Rapid Production?
In his speech at the ceremony, President Erdoğan particularly drew attention to the Steel Dome project and the layered air defence architecture. Modern wars today (conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East) clearly demonstrate how quickly air defence missiles and smart munitions are consumed.
For an air defence umbrella (the Steel Dome) to remain standing, tens of thousands of interceptor missiles like SİPER, HİSAR, and SUNGUR must be ready in depots. This $3 billion investment activated by ROKETSAN guarantees that our military's ammunition stocks will never be depleted. The facilities function as a massive logistical engine, ensuring uninterrupted missile and ammunition flow to the front line even in wartime.
From TAYFUN to the Claws of KIZILELMA
Alongside the facility openings, ROKETSAN also carried out the mass delivery of highly critical platforms to the Turkish Armed Forces within the scope of the ceremony. The company delivered TAYFUN, Türkiye's first short-range ballistic missile, and ATMACA, our deterrent power at sea, to our military.
Furthermore, the air defence family (SİPER, HİSAR-A, HİSAR-O, SUNGUR) and the air force's deep strike weapons (ÇAKIR, SOM) were dispatched to units. Additionally, MAM-T and MAM-L smart munitions, the sharpest claws of UCAVs (AKINCI, KIZILELMA, TB2) in the field, entered the inventory in large numbers. This situation proves ROKETSAN's ability to mass-produce systems from very different disciplines simultaneously.
The New Leader of the Global Market
This breakthrough, described as a historic day by ROKETSAN General Manager Murat İkinci, shows that the Turkish defence industry no longer fits within its shell. This infrastructure move, totalling $3 billion, is shaping not only today's but the next 50 years' defence architecture.
Increasing production capacity fivefold means that Türkiye will equip its own army while also exporting munitions to the global market at an unprecedented speed. Ultimately, Türkiye is transforming from a country that merely designs its own technology. Our country is becoming an absolutely independent and deterrent superpower, determining the supply chain in the global defence industry with its massive production lines.
