TÜMOSAN, a Turkish brand with Yüzde 100 yerli capital, has produced the first two members of its 155-1000 horsepower family of diesel engines, developed within the framework of the New Generation Diesel Engine Development project, which it started in 2012 with the support of TÜBİTAK. The ignition of the 4-cylinder 4.5-liter and 6-cylinder 6.8-liter engines was carried out at the TÜMOSAN Konya Factory.
With over 40 years of experience in engine manufacturing, TÜMOSAN continues to produce diesel engines in the 45-185 HP range. Taking into account global advancements in diesel engine technology and the needs of both the company and Turkey, TÜMOSAN launched the TÜBİTAK-supported “New Generation Diesel Engine Development” project in 2012. The dedicated efforts for this project, closely followed by Türkiye, have yielded results in five years. Working towards the goal of developing an engine family equipped with the latest high-pressure injection-combustion technology (Common Rail) used in diesel engines worldwide, Turkish engineers have completed the first two members of a modern engine family ranging from 155 horsepower to 1000 horsepower, featuring high-pressure boost turbochargers and a domestically developed electronic control unit.
Within the scope of the project, the prototype manufacturing and first firing of the newly designed 4.5-liter inline 4-cylinder and 6.8-liter 6-cylinder engines were successfully completed in 2016. Performance and calibration studies of the first two members of this engine family, the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder versions, are ongoing. Design and analysis studies of the 5.2-liter 4-cylinder and 7.8-liter 6-cylinder versions are also being carried out with Turkish engineers.
In the continuation of the project, the company plans to initiate studies on products that will meet commercial and military needs with inline 6-cylinder 9-liter and V-type 8 and 10-cylinder diesel engines in the 450-1000 HP range. With this move by TÜMOSAN, Turkey will gain the opportunity to compete with other countries in the world that possess diesel engine technology with its new engine family.
