TÜRKSAT 6A, the Pride of Turkey, in Orbit at 42 Degrees East!

TURKSAT 6A has successfully entered its mission orbit at 42° East longitude.

Turksat 6A Tusas Test

Türkiye's first domestically produced communications satellite, TÜRKSAT 6A, has now taken its place in the 42 degrees East orbit where it will operate. The satellite reached its orbit after five successful launches following its launch into space on July 9, 2024.

After its launch into space, TÜRKSAT 6A initially settled into a test orbit at 50° East longitude. Following the successful completion of tests in this orbit as planned, the transition to its final operational orbit at 42° East longitude began on December 16, 2024. After five orbital maneuvers during this process, the satellite was successfully placed into its operational orbit on December 28, 2024.

While orbital tests continue at 42° East longitude, ground operations will include the completion of physical installations and virtual stations, as well as the acceptance process for ground station software and end-user training. Following the completion of these processes, the satellite will be transferred to TÜRKSAT A.Ş.

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır described this development as a major step for the country. Emphasizing that TÜRKSAT 6A is the most valuable technology platform Türkiye has ever produced, Kacır stated that the satellite will provide communication services to regions inhabited by 5 billion people.

The satellite will serve for 15 years and will significantly increase Türkiye's communications capacity. This project was realized through the collaboration of domestic companies such as TÜBİTAK UZAY, TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, and CTECH, thus making Turkey one of the 11 countries capable of producing communications satellites.

Throughout its service life, TÜRKSAT 6A will not only increase and back up Türkiye's communications capacity, but will also provide access to a wide region covering Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
