Developed by TÜBİTAK Defence Industry Research and Development Institute, Türkiye's first cruise missile, SOM, with a range of 185km, is ready for mass production.
In addition to the integrated Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) that provide mid-phase guidance for the missile, a Terrain Reference Navigation System (TRNS) was also developed using domestic resources. Thanks to this system, even if the GPS signal is interrupted or jammed, the missile can follow the terrain features pre-loaded into its computer and correct its course, approaching the target with high precision.
The system also supports navigation information by matching images at designated waypoints thanks to its Image-Based Navigation capability.
Thanks to its infrared imaging seeker, which activates in the final stage, the missile matches its target with an image pre-loaded into its computer, striking with an accuracy of a few meters and destroying it with its high-impact warhead.

Congratulations, that's great news! Hopefully, politicians won't obstruct it and will support it.
If its range is increased to 10,000 km in a short time, then it would truly be wonderful, and that would be fitting for Turkey. Our engineers can achieve this, as long as the state provides support. May our engineers who do a good job be blessed, and may it be beneficial to the nation.
Even though the range is limited, it's great that we've managed to do this... I hope we can also build one with a 3800 km range... After achieving the 185 km version, we'll achieve the 3000 km one too... Because our future work will focus on extending the range, not on producing it from scratch.
Even if it's not very good, I'll still say it's good. I missed these things.
Meanwhile, we don't see much of this news on social media. You haven't made it public; it would be better if you made it public on Facebook and Twitter.
As such projects are produced, our nation's dependence on foreign countries will decrease. And I can say that this is an important project product on the path to complete independence. Furthermore, companies and scientists producing such domestic technology should be carefully protected by the state. Let's not forget that in 2006 and 2007, Aselsan engineers were murdered under the guise of suicide.
I hope it will be beneficial and auspicious for our country. I would like to express my wishes for continued success to all the engineers and institutions involved, and our desire for the release of new products, and that the Turkish people expect great projects. Thank you….
This is a great piece of work. I thank everyone involved. Hopefully, more effective and longer-range weapons will be developed and used in national defense as soon as possible. I wish you success in your endeavors.
You've gone crazy, congratulations!.
Excellent, yes, I saw this six months ago.
