Pamukkale University's Faculty of Engineering has achieved a major success in energy saving by developing a super freezer that freezes all kinds of food in 5 minutes.
The project, which cost 187,000 YTL, was also supported by TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). With the developed device, all kinds of food products, especially vegetables and fruits, can be cooled in 2 minutes and frozen in 5 minutes. Associate Professor Harun Kemal Öztürk, a faculty member at the Engineering Faculty, stated that this invention is revolutionary, saying, “The industrial sector should benefit from this project first. While it is possible to cool products in places like refrigerators and cold storage facilities in 30 to 60 minutes, with the project we have developed, it is possible to cool food products in 2 minutes, resulting in huge energy savings.”.
"We haven't come across any similar studies in the literature. We've achieved a world first by cooling döner and other meat products using a vacuum cooling system. If food products are cooled slowly, microorganisms multiply quickly. Also, since products are placed in cold storage at a warm temperature, the cold products inside can warm up. This reduces the shelf life of the products. This system eliminates this risk," he said.
