Turkish technology company Plan-S has increased its orbital capacity as part of its Internet of Things (IoT) based satellite network project. With the launch of 4 new satellites under SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket's "Twilight" mission, the company's active Connecta satellite constellation has reached 16.

The Connecta project, developed to provide IoT (Internet of Things) connectivity in areas lacking terrestrial communication infrastructure, has reached a new milestone. Plan-S announced that it has expanded its network capacity by sending 4 new satellites into orbit.

Launch and Initial Situation Assessment

Following the launch by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, the satellite separation process from the carrier was completed as planned. According to technical data shared by the company:

  • Signal Contact: Immediately after the separation process, the first signals from all four satellites were successfully received.
  • Telemetry Data: Analysis of telemetry data from the satellites confirmed that all subsystems were functioning properly and the satellites were ready to perform their missions.

Technical Gains from 16 Satellites: Increased "Revisit Cadence"

Increasing the number of satellites in the constellation to 16 directly improves the technical parameters of the Connecta IoT Network. This capacity increase affects service quality in two main areas:

  1. Revisit Cadence: The increasing number of satellites increases the frequency with which they pass over any given point on Earth. This shortens the intervals between data acquisition from IoT devices in the field, minimizing latency in data flow.
  2. Network Capacity: Each new satellite added to the system increases the capacity for simultaneous data processing and transmission, allowing the network to support more devices.

Goal: Data Flow Across Land Borders

Plan-S's Connecta network aims to maintain data communication in oceans, rural agricultural areas, and remote geographies where GSM or fiber infrastructure cannot reach. With a structure comprising 16 satellites, it aims to ensure the uninterrupted collection of sensor and monitoring data in the energy, logistics, agriculture, and maritime sectors.
