Critical Milestone for KIZILELMA: Performance and Targeting Test Conducted with ASELSAN TOYGUN EOTS

Bayraktar KIZILELMA conducted performance tests with the integrated ASELSAN TOYGUN EOTS system. Day/night targeting capability and technical details of the system.

Türkiye's unmanned fighter jet, the Bayraktar KIZILELMA, has passed another significant stage in its avionics integration process. The ASELSAN TOYGUN Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS), previously integrated into the platform, has been subjected to performance tests during a recent flight. In the footage shared by Baykar, TOYGUN's targeting, tracking, and imaging capabilities were confirmed in both day and night conditions, while KIZILELMA's detection capability in its stealth configuration was also validated.

The process in the Bayraktar KIZILELMA project is evolving from the platform development phase to the mission systems validation phase. The images shared by Baykar Technology revealed the operational efficiency of the ASELSAN TOYGUN system, which is embedded in the aircraft's nose. This test proves that the system is not merely physically present on the aircraft but provides data flow in full integration with the flight computer, mission computer, and ground control station.

TOYGUN EOTS: The Embedded Power of Passive Detection

Unlike FLIR systems typically mounted under the fuselage on UAVs, the TOYGUN system features an aircraft-integrated architecture, suitable for the requirements of 5th generation fighter jets.

5th Generation Sensor Fusion and Serial Production Signal

The successful execution of the ASELSAN TOYGUN performance tests indicates the maturity of KIZILELMA's sensor fusion infrastructure. The aircraft can process data from both the MURAD AESA Radar and the TOYGUN EOTS, presenting a single, coherent picture to the pilot or autonomous decision-making mechanism.

These tests, conducted in day and night conditions, show that the aircraft's avionics suite is nearing completion and that the platform is rapidly approaching its Block-1 serial production configuration.

Technical Specifications of TOYGUN

Developed by ASELSAN and sharing a similar concept with the EOTS system on the F-35, the prominent technical features of TOYGUN are:

  • Imaging: High-resolution MWIR (Medium Wave Infrared) Thermal Camera and Colour TV Camera.
  • Laser Unit: Laser Range Finder (LRF), Laser Designator (LD), Laser Spot Tracker (LST).
  • Coverage: Wide field of view and high magnification ratios.
  • Air-to-Air Mode: Passive engagement support for aerial targets via infrared tracking.
