Speaking at the 9th Air and Avionics Systems Seminar, Abdurrahman Şeref Can, Head of the Aircraft Department at the Presidency of Defence Industries, announced that serial production has begun in the Özgür Project, which aims to modernize F-16 aircraft with domestically produced avionics.
With the Özgür Project, which was initiated by Türkiye independently of the US, the operational capabilities and technological lifespan of Turkish F-16s will be increased using national resources.
Free Project
The Özgür project initially aims to modernize the Block 30 F-16s belonging to the Turkish Air Force. The project aims to replace the mission computers of the F-16 aircraft with domestically produced mission computers and to nationalize many subsystems. Following the modernization work carried out under the Özgür project, the F-16 aircraft of the Turkish Air Force will also gain the capability to operate with domestically produced ammunition.
