Developed by STM as part of Türkiye's domestic and national submarine project, MİLDEN, and with production commencing in June 2022 with test production of the rugged hull, the STM500 submarine represents a significant step forward in submarine technology.
The STM500 submarine is a diesel-electric attack submarine designed for shallow waters, measuring 42 meters in length, 4.2 meters in diameter, and with a displacement of 500 tons. It offers living space for 22 personnel and can remain at sea for 30 days. The submarine can reach speeds of 5 knots on the surface and 18 knots underwater. It has a range of 1000 km and can descend to depths of over 250 meters.
The STM500 Submarine will be built as a platform capable of meeting the needs of the Turkish Navy in both wartime and peacetime. It will be equipped with four 533 mm torpedo tubes, two 400 mm torpedo tubes, and two 12.7 mm machine guns. It will also include various sensors such as sonar, radar, periscope, electronic warfare, and communication systems.
The STM500 submarine has a diesel-electric propulsion system, powered by two diesel generators, two electric motors, and two propellers. It also features an air-independent propulsion system (AIP), which allows the submarine to remain submerged for longer periods without surfacing.
The STM500 Submarine is a project that demonstrates Türkiye's advancement in submarine technology. This submarine was designed and developed by STM's experienced and competent engineers.
What are the capabilities of the STM500 submarine?
STM500 is a submarine capable of performing a variety of missions including anti-submarine warfare, special operations, intelligence gathering, surveillance and reconnaissance, mine warfare, shallow water operations, unmanned underwater/aircraft operations, and submersible vehicle adaptation. It can descend to depths of 200+ meters and remain at sea for 30 days.
What sensors and weapons does the STM500 submarine have?
The STM500 submarine is equipped with four 533 mm torpedo tubes, two 400 mm torpedo tubes, and two 12.7 mm machine guns. It also includes various sensors such as sonar, radar, periscope, electronic warfare, and communication systems. These sensors and weapons ensure that the submarine is a platform capable of meeting the needs of the Turkish Navy in both wartime and peacetime.
