The BORAN Light Towed Howitzer, developed domestically by the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation, has been put into service with the Turkish Armed Forces.
Developed by the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK), BORAN, with its weight of 1760 kg, effective range of 17 km, readiness for firing in less than 1 minute, successful 24 tests, and ability to operate continuously in all weather conditions, is a candidate to become one of the effective weapons of the Turkish Armed Forces.
BORAN Light Towed Howitzer
BORAN, a lightweight towed howitzer, is designed for air transport. Developed by MKEK (Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation), the system is intended for use by the Turkish Armed Forces in internal security and air assault operations, as well as providing fire support to commando brigades. BORAN features a 105 mm (30 caliber) barrel. With a total weight of 1760 kg, including the fire control system, the weapon can be transported by Sikorsky S-70 helicopters and various light vehicles. The barrel has an elevation range of -3 to +70 degrees and can fire lateral shots of 8 degrees to the right and left. Equipped with a fire control system supported by GPS and a panoramic scope, BORAN can operate continuously for eight hours in temperatures ranging from -32 to +44 degrees Celsius. Capable of being deployed independently of conventional positioning procedures, the system can be effective at a range of 17 km with long-range ammunition.
