President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan today inaugurated a boron carbide production plant in Bandırma, a facility of strategic importance.
Türkiye's facility, which will produce 1,000 tons of boron carbide annually, is an important step towards the production of boron carbide, a critical material used in many sectors, especially the defense industry (active vehicles, helicopters, airplanes, light armored vehicles and personal protective vests, armor plates).
Speaking at the opening of the facility, which was established with an investment of 80 million dollars, President Erdoğan stated that the boron carbide produced will be used primarily in the defense industry, nuclear, automotive, and wear-resistant parts manufacturing. Noting that Türkiye is one of the countries with the richest and highest quality boron mineral resources in the world, Erdoğan stated that with this facility, the available minerals will be processed and transformed into a value-added product.
At the opening ceremony, it was also announced that the facility will provide employment for 279 people and aims for an annual revenue of $35-40 million. This facility, which aims to increase Türkiye's domestic production capacity and reduce imports, is considered an important and strategic step for our country.
Dünya bor rezervlerinin %73’üne sahip olan Türkiye’de bilinen bor yatakları; Eskişehir – Kırka, Kütahya – Emet, Balıkesir Bigadiç, Bursa-Kestelek’te bulunmaktadır.
What is boron carbide?
Boron carbide (B4C) is a type of carbide containing boron. B4C is used for industrial applications due to its high temperature and high mechanical strength properties. Its lightweight nature makes it particularly valuable.
