The DIMDEX 2026 International Maritime Defence Exhibition, which opened its doors in Doha, the capital of Qatar, also showcased the micro-technologies of Turkish engineering. At the exhibition, where giant battleships and warships were displayed, Altınay Defence Technologies unveiled its new innovation, X Motion, which defies the laws of physics and is even smaller than a matchbox.
While the defense industry often focuses on massive platforms, the critical subsystems that power those platforms determine the fate of war. Developed by Altınay Defense and unveiled in Qatar under the title "Türkiye's Smallest Servo Driver," the X Motion servo motor driver family, a critical component with performance unexpected for its size, attracted significant attention.
How does a UAV's camera lock onto a target with such precision? Or how does a robotic arm move with millimeter accuracy? The answer to all of this lies in servo drives. This critical component, usually imported and at risk of embargo, has been localized through Altınay engineering. X Motion, with its performance beyond its size and full compliance with military standards (MIL-STD), meets the micro-power needs of the Turkish defense industry.
350 Watts of Power in 25 Grams: Pushing the Boundaries of Engineering
Lightweight design is one of the most important criteria in aviation. The weight savings provided by X Motion mean that a UAV can stay airborne for 10 minutes longer or carry one more munition.
Space Edge Resistant: 25,000 Meters Altitude
X Motion is no ordinary electronic circuit board. It's a survivability element designed for the most demanding combat conditions. Its 25,000-meter (approximately 82,000-foot) altitude capability, as stated in its technical data sheet, indicates that this drive can operate flawlessly on high-altitude platforms (HALE/MALE) such as AKINCI, AKSUNGUR, and even KIZILELMA.
- Heat: Continuous operation from freezing temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius to desert heat of +60 degrees Celsius.
- Shock and Vibration: Tested to MIL-STD-810G standards, the device withstands shocks or vibrations (20 GRMS) caused by turbulence during missile launch.
Applications: From the Eye of a UAV to the Barrel of a Gun
This micro-drive manages the most critical “moving” components of the defense industry:
- Electro-Optical Systems (Gimbal): X Motion controls the precise motors that enable the drone cameras to capture images without shaking.
- Weapon Towers: It lies at the heart of stabilization systems that enable millimeter-precise aiming in remotely controlled weapon systems (RCWS).
- Robotics and Unmanned Ground Vehicles: From the arms of bomb disposal robots to the wheels of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), every kind of "movement" is entrusted to this driver.
Technical Specifications: X Motion Family
- Dimension: 35 x 30 x 12 mm (Ultra Compact)
- Weight: 25 g (Without refrigerant)
- Strength: Max. 350 W / 10 A Continuous Current
- Communication: Advanced CANOpen Network
- Engine Support: PMSM, BLDC, DC motors
- Feedback: Extensive sensor support including SSI, Hall, Resolver, and Absolute Encoder.
Altınay Defense Technologies, with X Motion, is not just delivering a product, but is adding another critical building block to the Turkish defense industry's vision of independence. The localization of these small but crucial components, which are difficult to source from abroad, also removes export barriers for large platforms.
