Developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE to enable high-speed ballistic testing using national resources, the HABRAS infrastructure will now allow tests to be conducted at supersonic speeds.
In a statement regarding the test, TÜBİTAK SAGE said, "In the HABRAS Target Ballistics Rail System Dynamic Test Infrastructure, the test component was stopped by firing a rocket in reverse while moving at a speed of 300 m/s, without using any other braking system.".
HABRAS (Target Ballistics Rail System Dynamic Test Infrastructure)
Construction of HABRAS began in June 2017, and it was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 31, 2018. Located in Konya Karapınar, within the ATDM Group Command, this test infrastructure, built on a 3 km² area, boasts a 2,000-meter-long double-rail track, making it one of the few of its kind in the world.
HABRAS is a field test infrastructure whose main feature is that it allows for the controlled performance of relevant tests for systems or subsystems in conditions close to real-world or tactical situations. A controlled test environment is a vital tool that allows a designer to validate their design and collect data for design updates if needed. In this context, the HABRAS infrastructure enables the dynamic testing of systems or subsystems at subsonic and supersonic speeds.
