A contract for the development of the Active Protection System (AKKOR), which will detect and destroy anti-tank rockets and missiles approaching tanks in mid-air, was signed in a ceremony between the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry and ASELSAN.
The AKKOR System, developed for use in the ALTAY National Tank, is an active protection system applicable to many types of armored vehicles thanks to its modular architecture. ASELSAN has been working on this system, used by very few armies worldwide, since 2008 using its own resources. Tests involving the radar, central computer, and physical destruction ammunition related to the system have also been successfully carried out since 2010.
Developed exclusively by ASELSAN, AKKOR will create a complete 360-degree protective shield. Equipped with a high-tech radar, AKKOR will detect incoming rockets or anti-tank missiles in a very short time. The guided physical destruction munition, aided by its sensors, will detonate at the closest point to the approaching anti-tank threat, neutralizing it.
