TÜBİTAK UZAY has held critical meetings in Malaysia to transfer Türkiye's accumulated expertise in satellite technologies to the international market. During an official visit led by Mustafa Murat Şeker, Deputy Head of the Defence Industry Agency, possible cooperation models were discussed regarding Malaysia's communications satellite requirements and Earth observation satellites.

TÜRKSAT 6A Expertise to Be Transferred to Malaysia

As part of the visit, which included TÜBİTAK UZAY Institute Director Mehmet Nefes and Deputy Institute Director Dr. Sadık Murat Yüksel, meetings were held with Malaysia's Ministry of Defence, Boustead, Measat, STRIDE and the Malaysian Space Agency (MySA). The discussions centred on how the expertise gained through the TÜRKSAT 6A project – Türkiye's first indigenous and national communications satellite – could be applied to Malaysia's satellite needs.

TÜRKSAT 6A was a milestone that enabled Türkiye to become one of the few countries capable of producing its own communications satellite. TÜBİTAK UZAY's role as prime contractor on this project provides a significant reference for countries such as Malaysia seeking to develop their own satellite infrastructure.

Cooperation on Earth Observation Satellites Also on the Table

In the meeting with MySA, R&D capabilities in the field of Earth observation satellites were shared. Cooperation opportunities for training, consultancy and joint satellite development activities were evaluated. TÜBİTAK UZAY's experience with Earth observation satellites, including BİLSAT, RASAT and GÖKTÜRK-2, offers the capacity to provide solutions to Malaysia's needs in this field.

As a result of the meetings, an agreement was reached to maintain contacts in the field of space technologies and to ensure mutual benefit from TÜBİTAK UZAY's more than 25 years of accumulated knowledge. The visit is seen as part of TÜBİTAK UZAY's strategy to translate its satellite technology capabilities into international collaborations.
