Following the successful launch of Türksat 5B into space, it was announced that the domestically produced satellite 6A, which is currently under development, will also be launched into space soon.
Construction work on Türkiye's first domestically produced communications satellite, TÜRKSAT 6A, supported under the TÜBİTAK 1007 program, continues under the coordination of the TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute (UZAY). Launched in December 2014, the project sees TÜBİTAK UZAY playing a significant role, drawing on its knowledge and experience gained from the RASAT and GÖKTÜRK 2 satellite projects. With TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, and CTECH as partners, many of the satellite's subsystems, including the ground station and software, are being developed entirely with domestic resources. System-level testing is ongoing, and the satellite is targeted for launch in 2023.
With the launch of TÜRKSAT 6A into orbit, a significant portion of Turkey's needs in the field of communications satellites will be met for the satellite's 15-year service life. The development of TÜRKSAT 6A will place Turkey among the 10 countries capable of developing communications satellites, marking a significant achievement. The domestically produced equipment on TÜRKSAT 6A will provide ready-to-use solutions for future space missions.
