The Turkish defence industry and the transport sector are joining forces to take the military logistics infrastructure to a strategic dimension. According to the new project announced by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, TÜRASAŞ Sivas Regional Directorate will produce 41 ZACENS-type tank wagons entirely with domestic resources for use by the Ministry of National Defence (MoND) in fuel and supply operations. With the 9 wagons previously delivered to the MoND, TÜRASAŞ is increasing the total number of domestic tank wagons in the military's inventory to 50. This major move guarantees uninterrupted and secure energy transport lines for the Turkish Armed Forces via railways.
Domestic ZACENS-Type Tank Wagons
On the modern battlefield, the mobility of armoured units and air elements depends entirely on the speed and security of logistics lines. TÜRASAŞ engineers are designing ZACENS-type tank wagons at the Sivas facilities precisely to meet these demanding military logistics needs.
Developed in compliance with international railway standards (TSI), ZACENS wagons stand out with their high transport capacity and sealed body structures. These wagons safely transport critical military fuels such as jet fuel (JP-8) or diesel even in the most challenging geographical conditions. Furthermore, the special alloy steel bodies used in the production of the wagons minimise the risk of explosion in case of accidents or sabotage. Moreover, the maintenance and repair processes of these platforms are carried out entirely by domestic engineers. Thus, the military fleet remains ready for duty at all times (combat-ready).
Nationalisation of Strategic Logistics
Railways have been one of the most fundamental and reliable strategic transport vehicles for armies from the great wars of history to the present day. Unlike roads, railways transport thousands of tonnes of military ammunition and fuel to the rear of the front lines in the safest manner. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu particularly emphasised how vital the coordinated work of the defence industry and the transport sector is, drawing attention to this strategic vision.
In past years, a significant portion of the wagons used in military logistics were procured from abroad or were operating with outdated technologies. However, this new production move initiated by TÜRASAŞ in Sivas is fundamentally ending the foreign dependency in the military's energy transport lines. These 41 new wagons, which will roll off the modern production lines in Sivas, are counting down the days to completely eliminate potential energy bottlenecks for the Turkish soldier in the field.
Uninterrupted Supply Network
These new-generation ZACENS wagons produced by TÜRASAŞ directly increase the operational depth and logistical resilience of the Turkish army. This massive domestic tank wagon fleet, which will total 50, will provide an immediate flow of fuel to military bases across the country in times of potential crisis.
