ASPİLSAN Energy, one of Türkiye's pioneering organisations in energy storage technologies, and TCDD Transportation have come together for domestic and national battery technologies in rail systems. At the 1st Accumulator Workshop hosted by TCDD Transportation, topics were addressed regarding the localisation of rail systems' current battery requirements and the development of next-generation energy storage technologies.

Lithium-Ion Cells and Field Experience Come Together

At the workshop, where ASPİLSAN Energy's competencies in lithium-ion cell production and battery system development met TCDD Transportation's field experience, high-capacity battery solutions, energy efficiency and cooperation opportunities for sustainable rail transport were evaluated. The companies aim to contribute to reducing external dependency in rail systems through national technology solutions and to the development of the energy technologies of the future.

Aim to Reduce Foreign Dependency on Batteries in Rail Systems

Rail systems require batteries as a critical energy storage component, particularly for electric trains and light rail systems. These batteries enable trains to run emergency lighting and traction systems during power outages, to store energy at stations, and to offer hybrid solutions in diesel trains. Until now, a significant portion of the batteries used in rail systems in Türkiye has been procured from abroad. ASPİLSAN Energy's lithium-ion cell production capability carries the potential to reduce this dependency.
