"Günsel," the domestically produced and national car of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was introduced at an event held at the Girne Elexus Congress Center.
The Günsel B9, the first model produced by Turkish engineers and designers within the Near East University after 10 years of work and 1.2 million hours of labor, was manufactured in yellow, blue, and red colors symbolizing the land, sky, and flag of the TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus). The design and interior of the Günsel B9 have received great acclaim.
Günsel, whose mass production will begin in 2021, will reach a production capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year by 2025. At the launch event for Günsel's first model, the B9, a prototype of the second model, the J9, which had been kept secret until now, was also presented to the guests. Designed as an SUV, the J9's development process is planned to be completed in 2022, with a prototype unveiling then scheduled for that year. In a presentation given by Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, it was revealed that mass production of the J9 model will begin in 2024.
Günsel's move to transform the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus into one of the automobile exporting countries will create a major boost for the country's economy. On the one hand, Günsel will generate significant export revenue for the TRNC through the export of its vehicles, and on the other hand, the fuel savings achieved by using Günsel vehicles domestically will significantly reduce the amount of imported fuel. Therefore, Günsel has the potential to significantly reduce the foreign trade deficit by contributing to the TRNC economy in two ways. The export revenue it will generate, the economy created by the automotive sub-industry it will help establish, and the employment it will provide will make Günsel one of the most important driving forces of the TRNC economy.
