The range problem of electric vehicles will be solved with batteries to be developed by ASELSAN and IBM. ASELSAN aims to further increase the level of its high-quality research studies conducted domestically by collaborating with leading research companies and institutions abroad.
Metal-Air batteries, to be developed as part of R&D activities, will be able to store at least five times more energy than existing Li-ion batteries at the same weight. With this feature, these new batteries will be a critical building block that completely solves the range problem of electric vehicles.
With current Li-ion battery technology, a family car can only travel 160 km (100 miles), but with the new technology being developed, it will be able to travel at least 800 km (500 miles). For example, an electric car carrying a family of four could travel from Istanbul to Kayseri on a fully charged battery without needing to be recharged.
