The first batch of the Modern National Infantry Rifle MPT-76, developed with national resources, was delivered to the Land Forces Command at a ceremony held at the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) Weapons Factory.
Minister of National Defense Fikri Işık, in his speech at the delivery ceremony of the National Infantry Rifle (MPT-76) at the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) Weapons Factory, stated that they were experiencing a special sense of pride. Minister Işık noted that the first batch of the MPT-76, developed with domestic and national resources and capable of operating in all types of terrain and weather conditions, had been delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces, and wished them success.
Minister Işık emphasized that the National Infantry Rifle is a weapon that security forces can use with confidence, and stated that 14-15 years ago, Türkiye was 80 percent dependent on foreign sources in the defense industry.
Emphasizing that they have reduced this rate to 40 percent today, Işık stated, “Our goal is to reduce this rate to below 20 percent. Turkey is no longer a country that looks enviously at others in this regard; it has reached a point where many countries look enviously at it.’.
Reminding that the legal process regarding the sale of the National Infantry Rifle projects is ongoing, Minister Işık said, “We are now at a point where we are a country whose projects are stolen, a country that is particularly admired. Whoever commits treason or wrongdoing will certainly pay the price, but this incident also shows the level that the Turkish defense industry has reached.”.
