Pardus, the open-source, free operating system, celebrated its 5th anniversary. The first product of Pardus, the Live CD, was publicly announced at the Academic Informatics Conference held at Gaziantep University in February 2005.
Pardus was launched in 2003 as a feasibility and planning project within TÜBİTAK UEKAE (National Institute of Electronics and Cryptology). A core technical team was quickly assembled to develop a Linux-based, open-source operating system distribution under the GNU GPL free license. Today, Pardus has become an operating system closely followed by a wide audience and preferred by an increasing number of organizations.
