The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) was established by Law No. 278, which entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette No. 11462 dated 24 July 1963.

The purpose of the establishment of Tübitak is “to develop, encourage, organise and coordinate research and development activities in the physical sciences in Turkey according to the priorities in the development of the country; to access and ensure access to existing scientific and technical information”.
