TEI-TS1400 Engine: Türkiye's Domestic Helicopter Engine Enters Mass Production Phase

TEI-TS1400 has achieved a major success, progressing towards mass production after rigorous testing following its first manned flight on April 19, 2023.

TEI-TS1400, Türkiye's first fully domestically produced helicopter engine, has achieved a major success. This project, initiated under the coordination of the Presidency of Defence Industries, is progressing towards mass production following its first manned flight on April 19, 2023.

The TEI-TS1400 engine successfully passed hundreds of tests by both the TEI and TUSAŞ Airworthiness Committees, receiving approval for manned flights. The domestically produced engine, coded TS8, completed its first flight without incident and successfully completed 15 six-hour attrition tests in accordance with EASA CS-E 740 Endurance standards.

In this historic test, the TEI-TS1400 engine was put to the test under a single-engine emergency landing (OEI) scenario, pushing its limits, following more than a dozen specially designed CS-E 740 tests. Our domestically produced engine, which had been subjected to hundreds of hours of rigorous testing before and after its first flight, demonstrated significant performance, reaching a power level of 1740 hp. Simultaneously, in accordance with EASA regulations, it continued to generate emergency-level power for 30 seconds under OEI conditions, successfully passing this test for a second iteration.

The TEI-TS1400 engine has demonstrated its ability to provide all the power our GÖKBEY helicopter needs under the most challenging conditions. This achievement once again highlights the capabilities of Turkish engineers and our ability to produce domestic technology. Our national engine makes a strong contribution to Türkiye's future in the aviation industry.
