Tubitak Electric Locomotive

The "E1000 Domestic Electric Locomotive," developed entirely with domestic technology through a partnership between TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and Turkey Locomotive and Motor Industry Inc. (TÜLOMSAŞ), was introduced at a ceremony. Eighteen scientists participated in the project, a collaboration between TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) and Turkey Locomotive and Motor Industry Inc. (TÜLOMSAŞ). The E1000, developed entirely with domestic technology, was launched onto the rails at a ceremony held at the Eskişehir TCDD Hasanbey Logistics Center, attended by the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri Işık and the Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı.

Equipped with features to meet the shunting and short-distance freight transport needs of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), the electric locomotive E1000 has taken its place on the rails. The national project, supported by TÜBİTAK and involving 18 scientists, was completed after four years of intensive work. With the national electric locomotive E1000, Turkey has become both the designer and producer of traction converters, traction control units, and train control and management systems – components with the highest added value in the rail vehicle sector, possessed only by developed countries worldwide.

The E1000, which stands out with its modern drive system and 1 megawatt traction system, had all its laboratory, software and infrastructure work, factory and road tests, and prototype production carried out entirely domestically. The technologies developed in this project can be adapted to many rail vehicles, from light rail vehicles to high-speed trains.
