
A group of young scientists at the Middle East Technical University (METU), using a 100,000 Turkish Lira grant from the Ministry of Industry and Trade for "Techno-entrepreneurship support," have succeeded in establishing Türkiye's first, and one of the world's few, synthetic biology companies and producing "artificial genes.".
Mahinur Akkaya, a faculty member at the METU Department of Chemistry, stated that artificial genes can be used in many areas, from cancer treatment and vaccine production to the cleaning of industrial waste and energy production.
