The Albatros swarm of kamikaze unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), produced domestically by ASELSAN, successfully hit and sank a target ship in a test firing conducted in Mersin.
Albatros is a system that moves at high speed on water, allowing the explosive it carries to detonate upon impact with enemy targets. In the test firing, one of the 8 Albatros vehicles in the swarm carried a warhead developed with the support of ROKETSAN.
During the test firing, a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Naval Forces Command also participated. The Bayraktar TB2 directed a swarm of Albatros drones towards the detected target. Thus, for the first time in the world, a joint UAV-drone operation and a kamikaze attack concept using a swarm of UAVs were demonstrated. The test firing was watched live from the Naval Forces Command Headquarters with the participation of the Commander of the Naval Forces, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, the President of the Presidency of Defence Industries, Haluk Görgün, and the General Manager of ASELSAN, Ahmet Akyol.
It was stated that prior to the test, the target vessel was cleaned and purged of polluting elements such as fuel to avoid harming the environment. It was emphasized that the Albatros kamikaze drone is an important force for the protection and defense of the Blue Homeland.
