ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol announced that the AKREP Fire Control Radar, developed by ASELSAN, has been integrated into the 5th MİLGEM ship. This radar will enable guided missiles to track and destroy their targets with precision.
ASELSAN develops various radar, sonar, torpedo, underwater vehicle, communication and electronic warfare systems to meet the needs of the naval forces. These systems enhance Türkiye's maritime security and independence.

The AKREP Fire Control Radar is a radar system developed domestically by ASELSAN. The AKREP Naval Platform Dual-Band Fire Control Radar was developed as a system capable of generating target tracking information with high accuracy and providing illumination for X-band semi-active surface-to-air guided missiles.
The AKREP system can operate in two different frequency bands: X-band and Ku-band. The X-band provides illumination for semi-active guided missiles, while the Ku-band is used for target detection and tracking. The system can generate target tracking information with high accuracy and accurately determine parameters such as the target's position, speed, and direction. The system provides effective defense against various air threats such as high-speed fighter jets, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and air-to-ground missiles.
The AKREP system can also operate on moving offshore platforms. The system is designed to withstand high vibration and shock. It also features various functionalities such as sector search, detached target detection, short reaction time, and advanced electronic protection capabilities.
What is the MİLGEM 5th ship?
The Istanbul Frigate is the fifth ship of the Milgem project. The Milgem project is a project initiated by Türkiye to produce its own domestic and national warships. As part of the Milgem project, the Ada-class corvettes were produced first. These corvettes are TCG Heybeliada, TCG Büyükada, TCG Burgazada, and TCG Kınalıada. These ships are the first four ships of the Milgem project.
The Istanbul Frigate is equipped with other ASELSAN products such as the GÖKDENİZ Close-in Air Defense System and the CENK Active Scanning Radar.
