The Italian aviation legend Piaggio Aerospace, reborn with the strategic support of Turkish technology giant Baykar, has received its first order for the new-generation P.180 Avanti NX aircraft. Within the scope of the historic agreement announced at the AERO Friedrichshafen 2026 fair in Germany, a European operator whose name was not disclosed purchased two aircraft. These new platforms, which will offer flexible use ranging from VIP passenger transport to air ambulance, herald Piaggio's assertive return to the sector. This development concretely proves the transformative and restorative power of Turkish defence and aviation capital in the global civil aviation market.
Jet Performance and Turboprop Efficiency
The iconic P.180 design, also known as the "Flying Ferrari" in the aviation world, is undergoing a brand new technological evolution with the Avanti NX model. Thanks to its distinctive pusher propellers and three-lifting-surface aerodynamics, the aircraft performs far beyond ordinary turboprop aircraft. However, while flying as fast as a business jet, it offers the low fuel consumption efficiency of a turboprop.
With its technical infrastructure and systems fully updated, the Avanti NX has the lowest CO₂ emission footprint in its class. This environmentally friendly feature directly responds to the increasing demand for green aviation in the global market.
The cabin configuration of the two ordered aircraft also involves versatile engineering. The aircraft will be delivered in a standard executive business jet configuration. However, thanks to modular stretcher systems integrated into the interior architecture, these aircraft can be transformed within minutes into fully equipped air ambulances capable of performing critical medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operations.
Rebirth with Baykar's Support
Piaggio Aerospace experienced financial turmoil and administrative crises for many years. However, the company is standing up again with the strong Turkish technology vision it has behind it. This order, announced on the 40th anniversary of the P.180's first flight, constitutes a vital vote of confidence for the brand's future.
Speaking at the fair, Piaggio Aerospace CEO Giovanni Tomassini expressed this strategic transformation with the following clear words:
"We are proud to have signed a contract for the sale of the Avanti NX so shortly after introducing the aircraft. Returning to AERO Friedrichshafen after a long time and signing a two-aircraft contract shows that we have made a strong comeback in the aviation market with the support of Baykar."
This striking statement clearly shows that Baykar not only produces unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). With its immense engineering experience and capital accumulation, the company is transforming into a global ecosystem builder that restructures Western aviation brands.
Production Target: 30 Aircraft per Year
This first order received represents only the starting signal for the company's long-term production plans. Piaggio Aerospace plans to gradually increase its production capacity in the coming years in parallel with market demand development. The company management aims to produce up to 30 aircraft per year within the next decade.
Turkish Power in the Global Ecosystem
This first order for the Avanti NX shows that the cards are being redistributed in the civil aviation market. Turkish companies are no longer just local actors producing hardware within their own borders. Through visionary companies like Baykar, our country directs Europe's established aviation brands, providing them with technological and commercial lifelines.
In the coming period, the Avanti NX model is expected to see much stronger demand from operators seeking low operating costs and jet comfort. Ultimately, this success clearly proves that Turkish strategic intelligence and Italian aviation tradition will create a perfect synergy, leaving a lasting mark on the global sky.
