The Ministry of Industry and Technology's 2027 budget presentation at the Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Committee set out critical milestones regarding Türkiye's technology, defence, space and industry strategies. In the presentation delivered by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, a host of visionary projects were tied to a timetable, from the subsystems of the National Combat Aircraft KAAN to Togg's new model T6X, and from the spaceport being built in Somalia to the first domestic modular nuclear reactor.

KAAN's Critical Subsystems Being Developed at TÜBİTAK

In the section of Minister Kacır's presentation devoted to the defence industry, details of the subsystems that end the fifth-generation fighter jet KAAN's external dependency stand out. Alongside the aircraft's fuselage and software, its vital hardware is also being fully nationalised.

Within TÜBİTAK institutes, the flight and mission management platform, the Life Support System providing pilots' breathing, the Fuel Safety System and engine superalloy technologies are being developed for KAAN. It was also stated that vacuum tubes that increase the range of long-range air defence radars, as well as the thermal batteries, pyrotechnic components and target detection systems of national missiles, are produced domestically. It was noted that Türkiye's defence industry ecosystem, which has more than 100,000 employees, surpassed the annual $10 billion threshold in exports as of 2026.

The Somali Spaceport and the High-Resolution İMECE-2 Satellite

One of the most noteworthy plans in the space strategies was the massive infrastructure investment in the Horn of Africa. Minister Kacır announced that with the spaceport under construction in Somalia, Türkiye will gain the capability for independent access to space. This strategic step supports Türkiye's goal of becoming the ninth country to carry out its own lunar mission.

The timetable has also become clear for the Earth observation satellite constellation project. The İMECE-2 satellite, with high-resolution and wide-area imaging capability, will be launched into space in 2027, and İMECE-3 in 2028.

The Long-Awaited Togg T6X Enters Production in 2027

Minister Kacır also shared up-to-date figures on Togg at the Grand National Assembly. Noting that more than 130,000 Toggs have taken to the roads to date, Minister Kacır officially announced that the new-generation T6X model, which will expand the brand's user base, will begin production in 2027.

Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır also shared the information that, in line with the zero-emission target on the railways, production of the 800-horsepower domestic hydrogen engine to be used in domestic locomotives has been completed.

Industry's Axis Shifts from Marmara to Anatolia

The details of the "Industrial Areas Master Plan," which will directly shape Türkiye's economic growth and export infrastructure, have also become clear. In order to spread the density of industrial facilities in the Marmara Region in a balanced way towards Anatolia, industrial development corridors are being created along Samsun-Mersin, Sivas-Iğdır, Mersin-Şırnak and Trabzon-Şırnak. The size of planned industrial areas is being increased to 350,000 hectares. The new industrial zones are targeted to be connected by rail to strategic international routes such as the Zangezur Corridor and the Development Road.

Modular Nuclear Reactor Arriving in 2030

Minister Kacır also shared information regarding the energy infrastructure of the future. It was announced that the first domestic prototype in the National Modular Nuclear Reactor Programme (SMR) — which is spreading rapidly worldwide and is far more flexible, safe and low-cost than traditional nuclear power plants — will be ready for production in 2030.
