The Turkish automotive industry continues to lead Europe's electrification transformation. TEMSA, a strong player in the global mobility market, has delivered 15 MD9 electriCITY model electric buses to Lithuania, a country that stands out with its vision for electric public transport. The vehicles were officially deployed at a large-scale ceremony in the city of Kaunas, Lithuania. This strategic move clearly demonstrates that TEMSA has successfully carried its record performance from 2025 into 2026. Furthermore, the company's rapidly increasing market share in Europe once again proves the strength of domestic engineering on the global stage.
Technical Analysis of the MD9 electriCITY
Efficiency in public transport operations largely depends on the vehicle's technical capacity and energy management. Thanks to its compact length of 9.5 metres, the MD9 electriCITY offers high manoeuvrability on narrow city streets. Moreover, the vehicle delivers a highly competitive performance compared to its rivals with its 250 kW electric motor at its heart.
The vehicle draws attention with its high-efficiency NMC (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery pack with a capacity of 200 kWh. This powerful battery infrastructure provides an uninterrupted range of approximately 230 kilometres on a single charge. Additionally, offering a total passenger capacity of nearly 60, this model more than meets all the dynamics of urban transport. From an environmental impact perspective, a single electric bus prevents approximately 650 tonnes of carbon emissions over a 10-year lifespan. This value alone neutralises the environmental pollution caused by 360 passenger cars.
Lithuania's Electrification Vision
Lithuania has been undergoing a radical technological transformation in public transport in recent years. According to European Commission data, 52 percent of new buses entering traffic in the country are fully electric. Therefore, TEMSA's focus on this market is certainly no coincidence.
The delivery ceremony took place with the participation of European Commission representatives, central government officials, and local authorities. The vehicles will serve under UAB Kautra, which has been operating as a TEMSA dealer for over 20 years and is one of the country's largest operators. UAB Kautra CEO Linas Skardžiukas stated that they do not see the process as merely purchasing vehicles. Skardžiukas emphasised that they are applying a broad ecosystem management approach encompassing charging stations and infrastructure investments.
TEMSA's Global Footprint is Growing
TEMSA CEO Evren Güzel defines the company's future position with the vision of becoming "The Preferred Mobility Brand." Güzel clearly outlined the company's long-term goals, stating, "With our flexible and diverse product portfolio, we are positioning ourselves as a brand with a turnover of $1 billion on a global scale."
The MD9 electriCITY successfully holds the title of being the first electric model the brand has ever exported. Following challenging European markets such as Sweden, France, and Spain, this delivery to Lithuania proves the vehicle's maturity in different climates and field conditions. With new deliveries planned in the coming months, the number of vehicles carrying the TEMSA logo on Lithuanian roads is expected to reach 321. This steady growth demonstrates the advanced level Türkiye has reached in high value-added technology exports.
