Within the scope of the KAPLAN MT Medium Class Tank Development project, a partnership between FNSS and PT Pindad, FNSS is delivering the completed Medium Class Tank Platforms to Indonesia.
The KAPLAN MT Medium Class Tank Development Project was established through an intergovernmental agreement signed between the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Turkey and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence. In 2015, a cooperation agreement was signed between Indonesia's DG Defence Potential and the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Turkey, deciding on the development of two prototype medium-class tanks. Within the scope of the KAPLAN MT (HARIMAU) Medium Weight Class Tank Series Production Long-Term Cooperation Agreement signed between FNSS Defence Systems and PT Pindad in 2019, FNSS completed the manufacturing of the first batch of vehicles with a series production configuration. The vehicles developed within the scope of the project, where FNSS successfully applied a technology transfer model to PT Pindad, will be manufactured at its facilities in Indonesia by the President of the Defence Industries of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Mr. Ismail Demir presented the "KAPLAN MT Medium Class Tank Platform Series Production Completion Ceremony" to the PT Pindad management, Indonesian Army and Ministry of Defense representatives, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey, the Deputy Commander of the Indonesian Army, Lieutenant General Agus Subiyanto, and representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Defence and PT Pindad.
FNSS successfully completed rigorous durability and firing tests in Indonesia following prototype development work. With the KAPLAN MT, the world's first medium-class tank tested and approved by an army, FNSS signed a joint production contract for a total of 18 vehicles at the end of 2019 and completed design refinement work with end-user participation in 2020. In 2021, the production and supply of parts and systems for the vehicles to be manufactured by PT Pindad in Indonesia were also completed, and these parts and subsystems were exported to Indonesia as vehicle kits and delivered to FNSS's partner, PT Pindad. By the beginning of 2022, FNSS successfully completed its project activities in Türkiye and prepared the vehicles produced in Türkiye for presentation to the customer. The remaining vehicles will be produced in Indonesia by PT Pindad under the project, using a technology transfer model that FNSS has successfully implemented before.
FNSS, by completing the design refinement studies in a short period of time and finalizing the production activities in Türkiye after the acceptance tests, once again demonstrated its export experience and success with the successful technology transfer model it implemented. The KAPLAN MT project stands out as Türkiye's first export project in the Tank Class, having been initiated within the framework of the Defense Industry Cooperation Agreements signed between Indonesia and Turkey and completed according to the foreseen schedule.
