The Ministry of National Defence announced that the National Heavy Class Torpedo AKYA was fired for the first time from the TCG PREVEZE submarine using the National Combat Management System MÜREN.
The Ministry of National Defence announced on its official social media accounts that the launch of the AKYA training torpedo, developed by ROKETSAN, was successfully carried out using the MÜREN Combat Management System developed by TÜBİTAK. With this successful test, Turkey will have nationalized two more critical components for its submarines.
What is the Submarine Combat Management System MÜREN?
In accordance with the cooperation protocol signed in 2015 between the Naval Forces Command and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, Information and Information Security Advanced Technologies Research Center, the MÜREN SYS Program was created, and the MÜREN SYS PREVEZE Class Application Project contract, as the second project of the program, was signed on August 1, 2017.
Within the scope of the project, the shipboard units of the Combat Management System in our PREVEZE-class submarines will be modernized in collaboration with the Research Center Command affiliated with the Turkish Naval Forces Command, and integration with 20 different sensors and navigation systems will be ensured; all analyses, including sonar signal processing, target movement analysis, ship navigation, and trajectory planning of different torpedoes, will be realized with domestic and national algorithms.
The project's outputs will directly contribute to the national submarine development activities planned for the future. The units to be developed are designed to be adapted and used in the GÜR-class mid-life modernization and the national submarine. The completion of the MÜREN-PREVEZE system for the 4 PREVEZE-class vessels in the inventory is planned within 72 months.
What is the New Generation Heavy Duty Torpedo AKYA?
AKYA is a new generation heavy-class torpedo developed entirely with national resources, capable of engaging various classes of submarines and surface targets from submarines.
AKYA features high speed, long range, active/passive sonar head, and internal and external guidance via fiber optic cable. It also utilizes wake guidance against surface targets.
