Designed by MKEK between 2004 and 2008 and put into mass production in 2008, the Bora-12 Sniper Rifle has turned 15 years old.
The Bora-12 is a 7.62 mm caliber, semi-automatic, single-shot rifle. It has an effective range of up to 1200 meters. It is used by the Turkish Armed Forces, the General Directorate of Security, and the Gendarmerie General Command. The Bora-12 is also exported to Azerbaijan. The Bora-12 is a good example of domestic and national production initiatives in the defense industry.
In addition to the Bora-12, MKEK is also working on a .50 caliber sniper rifle project. This rifle will have a longer range and higher penetration power. The KN-12, Türkiye's first variable caliber sniper rifle, was also developed by MKEK. The KN-12 can easily switch between 7.62 mm and 8.6 mm calibers. It has entered the inventory of the Land Forces Command.
Turkey is among the leading countries in the world in terms of sniper rifles. Sniper rifles such as the Bora-12, MPT-76, and KN-12 are indicators of Türkiye's success in this field. These weapons are preferred both domestically and internationally.
