Istanbul Metro Inc. is starting the production of the domestically manufactured TRAM34 tram. With the signing ceremony held today, production of 34 fifth-generation trams has begun.
The signing ceremony also marked the opening of the Metro Istanbul R&D center.
TRAM34 is a completely domestically produced vehicle, developed and manufactured by Turkish engineers under the umbrella of Metro Istanbul's registered R&D center, backed by 34 years of experience. The design registration and all patents issued by the R&D center will belong to that center. Therefore, TRAM34 is considered a national technology product.
The TRAM34 trams were designed with the comfort of passengers—both seated and standing—in mind, including those with disabilities and cyclists. Equipped with modern and environmentally friendly technologies, the vehicles will contribute to solving Istanbul's transportation problems. The opening of the R&D center of Istanbul Metro Inc., established to increase Türkiye's innovation potential by investing in domestic technological developments, is considered an example of these efforts.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, in his speech during the launch of TRAM34, stated, ’TRAM34 is a completely domestically produced product and was brought to life through the efforts of Turkish engineers. All design registrations and patents issued in the R&D center belong to our citizens. Therefore, TRAM34 stands out as a national technology product.“.
