Karsan has started production of electric Level 4 autonomous buses.

Karsan has officially started production of the Atak Electric, becoming Europe's first Level 4 autonomous bus manufacturer.

Karsan has officially started production of the Atak Electric, an autonomous bus first announced at the beginning of the year, becoming Europe's first Level 4 autonomous bus manufacturer.

In the project carried out by Karsan's R&D team, a collaboration was established with another Turkish company, ADASTEC. Level 4 Autonomous software developed by ADASTEC was integrated into Atak Electric's electrical and electronic architecture and electric vehicle software. As a result, the Autonomous Atak Electric, Europe's first 100% electric and Level 4 autonomous public transport vehicle, has begun rolling off the production lines at Karsan's factory in Bursa.

What does Level 4 Autonomy mean?

There are six basic levels of autonomous driving defined by the leading automotive engineering organizations worldwide. These levels are ranked from lowest to highest as follows: Level 0, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5. In Level 4 autonomous driving, all steering control, braking adjustment, acceleration/deceleration, vehicle and road tracking tasks are performed by intelligent systems without driver intervention, following predetermined routes. At this level, actions requiring decisions based on traffic flow, such as turning, signaling, and lane changes, are also performed by the vehicle.
