National Surveillance Radar (MGR) Ready for Mission

The National Surveillance Radar (MGR), developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, is operational with a range of 110 km. This domestically produced radar, capable of tracking 1000 targets simultaneously, protects Turkish airspace.

Another strategic move to end dependence on foreign sources in air traffic control is taking place. Developed entirely with domestic resources by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, the National Surveillance Radar (MGR) fills a critical gap in civil and military aviation with its 110-kilometer range and advanced target tracking capabilities. The system also opens doors for export with its performance meeting international standards.

Developed as an R&D-based solution in line with the needs of the State Airports Authority (DHMİ). National Surveillance Radar (MGR), This takes Türkiye's expertise in radar technologies to the next level. Designed specifically for use in civil aviation, but also intended for military use... PSR (Primary Surveillance Radar) The system, which also meets their needs, ensures the security of the airspace with domestically developed algorithms.

International Standard Range of 110 km

Developed through original R&D efforts, MGR is recognized by global authorities in aviation safety. ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and EUROCONTROL It operates in strict accordance with the standards.

The system's technical capabilities are specifically optimized to manage heavy air traffic:

  • Wide Coverage Area: With a range of 110 kilometers (approximately 60 nautical miles), it provides complete control of the airport approach area (TMA).
  • High Tracking Capacity: Thanks to its advanced signal processing capabilities, it can simultaneously 1000 different aerial targets It can be monitored without interruption.

The Era of "National Systems" in Approach Control

The most strategic aspect of the MGR project lies in its integration with other domestic aviation systems. The system is being developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM for DHMİ (General Directorate of State Airports Authority). CWP (Air Traffic Controller Job Position) and SSR It operates in an integrated structure with (Secondary Surveillance Radar) projects.

Thanks to this integration;

  • At an airport “"Approach Control Services"” (Approach Control Services) is being provided for the first time in Türkiye's history entirely with domestically produced products and software.
  • Millions of dollars spent on imported radar systems remain within the country.

Goal: First National Expansion, Then Export

MGR is being produced in a scalable structure to be installed not just at a single airport, but at all airports across Turkey where it is needed. While the success of the domestic radar is attracting attention in the global market, the aim is to market the system abroad and contribute to Türkiye's high-tech exports.
