The high cost of satellite-based systems and the dependence on other countries' technologies pose a strategic risk. However, satellite technology enables intercontinental transmission of voice and images using only the atmosphere. Foresc, It requires no usage costs.
System, The first Turkish product sold to NATO. It has the characteristic of being and also The first foreign system to enter the Russian navy. It is also going down in history as such.
Providing information on the subject, TÜBİTAK Foresc Project Manager Ali Çıkıkçı summarizes the system's success as follows:
“It was first used in the Black Sea 4 exercises in Russia, Ukraine, and Romania. Hearing about these efforts, NATO began using the system in its Active Endeavour operation as part of Mediterranean Security. So far, 20 countries have used the system; some continuously, others periodically. Georgia, Russia, and Romania are among the countries that use the system continuously.”
Technical Insight: How Does FORESC Work?
FORESC/FORESC-II is much more than a simple radio system. It is an advanced Secure Data Terminal solution that operates over HF/VHF/UHF radio lines without the need for satellites.
The system's technical architecture is based on the following critical standards:
- STANAG 5066 Standard: The system is based on NATO's STANAG 5066 profile for data transmission over HF (High Frequency). This layer standardizes the interface between modem/radio and applications, ensuring that services such as email, chat, file transfer, and limited IP traffic operate reliably even on HF channels where atmospheric conditions are challenging.
- Beyond the Horizon (BLOS) Communication: Without needing a satellite, it can transmit data thousands of kilometers away by reflecting radio waves off the atmosphere.
- Image Transfer Details: The image transmission capability described in open sources relies on the principle of securely transmitting field photographs or map data in compressed file format to the central location, rather than a live video stream, due to the physical limitations of HF bandwidth.
%100 Güvenlik ve Afetlerde Kesintisiz İletişim
The system's global demand is based on security and independence. FORESC processes data through online compression and encryption algorithms before transmitting it. This ensures that signals intercepted in mid-air can never be deciphered without a FORESC terminal and the correct key on the receiving end.
Furthermore, the system's ARQ (Automatic Retransmission) mode confirms that the data has arrived without corruption, while the Broadcast mode allows commands/information to be transmitted simultaneously from a single source to multiple units. In natural disasters such as earthquakes, where GSM networks and satellites can be disabled, FORESC, using only a radio and the atmosphere, can establish a life-saving communication bridge.
