Speed Record Broken on Rails: Turkey's First Domestic High-Speed Train Reaches 240 km/h

The first domestic high-speed train of Türkiye, developed by TÜRASAŞ, reached a speed of 240 kilometres per hour during test processes. The train, developed with a target cruising speed of 225 km/h, will serve as an alternative to imported sets.

Türkiye's National High-Speed Train Reaches 240 km/h on Rails

Türkiye's localisation drive in railway technologies has passed another critical threshold. Türkiye's first domestically developed high-speed train, produced by TÜRASAŞ, proved its performance by reaching a speed of 240 kilometres per hour during ongoing tests. TÜRASAŞ announced this historic moment on its social media account on May 28, with the title "Another Proud Success on the Rails".

240 km/h: A Critical Milestone in the Test Schedule

Safely reaching a speed of 240 kilometres per hour in the national high-speed train development project is considered one of the most critical milestones in the project's test schedule. This achieved speed indicates a performance above the train's operational target cruising speed of 225 km/h. In railway test processes, testing vehicles at speeds above the daily operational target is a standard engineering approach, used to verify the safety margins of the systems.

While TÜRASAŞ emphasised that the test processes continue, reaching 240 km/h is an important indicator that the project is progressing according to its timeline.

About the Domestic High-Speed Train Project

The domestic high-speed train developed by TÜRASAŞ is one of the most concrete projects aiming to reduce Türkiye's foreign dependency in railway transport. The vehicle is being developed to operate at a cruising speed of 225 km/h. Upon the project's completion, Türkiye will become one of the few countries capable of producing its own high-speed trains.

With the train entering mass production, it is aimed to create a domestic alternative to the Siemens, CAF, and Alstom-produced high-speed train sets currently in the TCDD fleet, which are imported from various countries. This will both save foreign currency and reduce foreign dependency in maintenance and repair processes.

TÜRASAŞ's Railway Initiative

TÜRASAŞ is elevating Türkiye's railway production capability to an advanced level with its recent projects including the national commuter train, metro vehicles, and now the high-speed train. Work carried out at the institution's factories in Eskişehir, Sakarya, and Sivas aims to make Türkiye a regional hub in railway vehicle production.

The domestic high-speed train's tests are expected to be completed in the coming period, after which it will be integrated into the TCDD fleet.
