The SUNGUR Air Defence Missile System, developed by ROKETSAN, successfully destroyed its target with a direct hit during a live-fire test. The test footage, shared by Professor Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Defence Industry Agency, via his social media account, once again demonstrated the system's operational capability.

"Absolute Dominance over the Sky Homeland"

Haluk Görgün announced the test success with the words: "Absolute dominance over the Sky Homeland, absolute success in the field." Görgün stated: "We will continue to strengthen our layered air defence architecture with new capabilities, reinforcing our Steel Dome."

SUNGUR's Role within the Steel Dome

SUNGUR is a mobile system positioned within the low-altitude air defence layer of Türkiye's layered air defence architecture, ÇELİKKUBBE (Steel Dome). The missile, which can be fired from the shoulder or from a platform, is designed to be effective against low-flying UAVs, helicopters and aircraft. Featuring an infrared seeker head, SUNGUR operates on a "fire-and-forget" principle and is capable of autonomously tracking its target.

The system had previously been integrated onto the AKINCI UCAV, gaining air-to-air engagement capability. SUNGUR, together with KORKUT (gun-based), HİSAR-A+ (low-to-medium altitude), HİSAR-O+ (medium altitude) and SİPER (high-altitude, long-range), forms the lowest and mobile complementary layer of Türkiye's multi-layered air defence umbrella.
