The Turkish defence industry is deploying a revolutionary munition that reduces civilian casualties to zero in urban operations. ROKETSAN unveiled the new-generation assassination missile NEŞTER (Scalpel Missile), which carries no explosive warhead and destroys its target using kinetic energy. Designed by ROKETSAN engineers as a variant of the famous MAM-L family, this smart munition neutralises its target by shredding it with six cutting blades that deploy just before impact. With this system, which has a range of 15 kilometres, Türkiye officially begins a new era of surgical precision in pinpoint strikes.

Kinetic Energy and Cutting Blades

Standard missiles use large amounts of explosives upon reaching their target, creating widespread destruction. However, with the NEŞTER project, ROKETSAN engineers are completely changing this classic doctrine. The system contains no chemical explosives. Instead, the munition destroys its target using its high speed (kinetic energy) and an innovative blade architecture.

Looking at its technical infrastructure, ROKETSAN is developing NEŞTER based on the combat-proven MAM-L platform. The munition features a highly sensitive proximity sensor in its nose. This sensor deploys six sword-like blades hidden in the airframe just milliseconds before the missile impacts the target. Thus, the vehicle physically cuts and shreds the target it dives upon at high speed. This platform, with a total operational range of 15 kilometres, is launched from UCAVs. Furthermore, as the system is the same size as MAM-L, technical teams can easily integrate this new missile variant onto existing unmanned aerial vehicles without any structural modification.

Zero Collateral Damage in Urban Operations

In modern asymmetric warfare, terrorist organisation leaders often hide in city centres populated by civilians. Target elements often move within civilian vehicles. Conventional airstrikes against these targets cause collateral damage, harming innocent people nearby. ROKETSAN specifically produced NEŞTER to eliminate this serious operational dilemma.

Thanks to its kinetic blade structure, the system neutralises only the targeted vehicle or person directly. Buildings, pedestrians, or other civilian elements passing right next to the vehicle suffer no physical harm from this attack. This critical technological feature offers intelligence agencies and armed forces much greater operational freedom. Our country supports its just struggle in the field with this technology, which is fully compliant with international law and absolutely protects civilians.

Equivalent to the US Hellfire R9X and Global Repercussion

ROKETSAN's historic step immediately caused a great stir in the international defence press. The US-based prominent military analysis platform The War Zone examined the NEŞTER platform in detail. Editors wrote that this new munition is directly the domestic equivalent of the American AGM-114R9X Hellfire (popularly known as the Ninja Bomb) missile. As is known, the US administration uses the R9X missile only in its own highly classified operations and does not sell it even to its closest allies. In The War Zone's analysis, experts emphasised that NEŞTER will fundamentally break this monopoly. Analysts importantly noted that this munition will be a highly attractive weapon alternative for many countries in the global market.

A New Era in Pinpoint Strikes

The NEŞTER project clearly proves that the Turkish defence industry produces its own unique solutions even in the most complex combat concepts. Türkiye is now equipping its advanced aerial platforms such as the Bayraktar TB2, ANKA, and AKINCI with the world's most precise target destruction munition.

In the coming period, we expect ROKETSAN to complete the test phases and for NEŞTER to rapidly enter the inventory of the National Intelligence Organisation. With this revolutionary explosive-free warhead technology they have developed, Turkish engineers are both completely changing the battlefield in regional operations and achieving a unique competitive advantage in the multi-billion dollar global export market.
